In California’s Central Valley, a former Democrat state legislator won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday, flipping a seat that was the final House race of 2024 to be officially decided, as reported by The Associated Press.
Even though Adam Gray, the challenger, won against the current U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.
According to a campaign spokesman named Duane Dichiara, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election with over 210,000 ballots, conceded shortly before The A.P. declared the results.
Mr. Gray announced his win on Tuesday, which was two days before the deadline for California counties to finalize their results.
In a statement on X, Mr. Gray emphasized that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations and is committed to being transparent and responsible.
Mr. Gray, a previous member of the California State Assembly, achieved a win in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte had won by a very narrow margin in what was one of the closest House races.
