In California’s Central Valley, a Democrat who used to be a state lawmaker won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday, flipping a seat that was the final House race of 2024 to be decided, as reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated John Duarte in the election, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House of Representatives with 220 seats compared to the Democrats’ 215 seats when the next Congress meets.

Before the Associated Press declared the winner, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election with over 210,000 votes, admitted defeat. This information was shared by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

On Tuesday, Mr. Gray announced that he had won two days before California counties were mandated to finalize their results.

In a statement on X, Mr. Gray stated that the final results show that the district is prepared for leadership that is both independent and accountable, prioritizing the people of the Valley over partisan politics.

Mr. Gray, who previously served in the California State Assembly, won in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte narrowly won by a small margin in the House race.
