In California’s Central Valley, a former Democratic state legislator won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday, flipping a seat that was the final House race of 2024 to be decided, as reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte in the recent election, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House of Representatives when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

Before The Associated Press officially declared the winner of the contest, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a race with over 210,000 ballots, admitted defeat. This information was shared by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

Mr. Gray announced his win on Tuesday, two days before California counties had to officially confirm their election results.

Mr. Gray expressed in a statement on X that the district is in need of leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations. He believes that the final results show that the district is prepared for responsible and independent leadership.

Mr. Gray, who previously served in the California State Assembly, won the recent election in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. In the previous election, Mr. Duarte won by a very small margin, one of the closest races in the House.
