In California’s Central Valley, a former Democratic state legislator won over the Republican incumbent in the last House race of 2024 that was decided on Tuesday. This information comes from The Associated Press.
Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte in the recent election, the Republican party will still have a slight majority in the House of Representatives when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.
Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election with over 210,000 votes cast, admitted defeat just before The A.P. announced the results, according to Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.
Mr. Gray announced that he had won on Tuesday, two days before California counties had to officially confirm their election results.
Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the district is in need of leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations.
Mr. Gray, who previously served in the California State Assembly, achieved a comeback victory in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the outcome of the 2022 election. Two years prior, Mr. Duarte had won by a very narrow margin, making it one of the closest House races.
