A Democrat from California won a House seat in the final race to be called. Adam Gray, who previously served in the state legislature, beat out incumbent Republican Representative John Duarte in a turnaround from their election in 2022.

In the recent election, a former state lawmaker from the Democratic party won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley. This victory marked the final House race of the 2024 election to be officially decided, as reported by The Associated Press.
Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte in the recent election, the Republican party will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. There will be 220 Republican seats compared to 215 Democratic seats.
Before the official announcement from The Associated Press, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a race with over 210,000 votes, admitted defeat. This information was shared by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.
Mr. Gray announced that he had won on Tuesday, two days before the deadline for California counties to officially confirm their election results.
Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the final results show that the district is in need of leadership that is independent, accountable, and prioritizes the people of the Valley over political party interests.
Mr. Gray, a previous California State Assembly member, achieved victory in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the 2022 election results. Two years prior, Mr. Duarte had won by a very narrow margin in the same district.
