Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated on Wednesday that her son has changed since 2018. She previously sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking integrity and character.
During an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth stated that Pete has transformed into a new individual, having been redeemed, forgiven, and changed.
"I hope that people, especially our female senators, take the time to learn about who Pete truly is today. I encourage you to listen to him with an open heart and truly understand the truth about Pete," she expressed. Additionally, she emphasized that Pete does not mistreat women.
She made an appearance after The New York Times released an email she had written while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she explained that she did not stand by what she said in that email and had already apologized to her son in a subsequent email.
Following reports of alcohol abuse and poor management of nonprofit organizations, The New Yorker published an article this week detailing these allegations. Additionally, Mr. Hegseth faced accusations of rape from a woman at a political conference in 2017, but no charges were brought after an investigation. Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, stated that the encounter was consensual.
The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment as the head of the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk, as President-elect Donald J. Trump is reportedly considering different candidates for the position.
