Reporting live from the
Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, mentioned on Wednesday morning that her son has changed since 2018 when she sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking moral values and integrity.
Mrs. Hegseth stated on "Fox & Friends" that Pete is a transformed individual who has been forgiven and changed for the better.
"I hope that everyone, especially the female senators, will take the time to understand who Pete is today. I ask that you listen to him with an open heart and truly hear the truth about Pete. It is important to note that he does not mistreat women."
She showed up after The New York Times released an email she had written while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce with his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she mentioned that she didn’t stand by what she said in the email and had already apologized to her son in a subsequent email.
Following reports of alcohol abuse and mismanagement of non-profit organizations in an article by The New Yorker, there have been allegations against Mr. Hegseth. Additionally, a woman accused him of rape at a political conference in 2017, but no charges were filed after an investigation, with Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer claiming the encounter was consensual.
The negative consequences of recent events have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment as head of the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. President-elect Donald J. Trump is reportedly considering different candidates for the position.
