On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, who is Pete Hegseth’s mother, stated that her son has changed since 2018 when she sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking integrity and moral values.
Mrs. Hegseth mentioned on "Fox & Friends" that Pete has transformed into a new individual, receiving redemption, forgiveness, and change.
"I really hope that people, especially our female senators, take the time to learn about who Pete is today and listen to him with an open heart. It’s important to hear the truth about Pete and understand that he respects women."
She made an appearance following the release of an email she sent while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what was said in the email and that she had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.
Following the publication of an article in The New Yorker this week, allegations of alcohol abuse and mismanagement within nonprofit organizations have surfaced. Additionally, Mr. Hegseth has been accused of raping a woman at a political conference in 2017, although no charges were filed after an investigation. Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, has stated that the encounter was consensual.
The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s possibility of leading the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is reported that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different individuals for the position instead.
