Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated on Wednesday that her son has changed since 2018, when she sent an email alleging that he mistreated women and lacked integrity.
During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete has transformed into a new individual, having been redeemed, forgiven, and changed.
"I hope that people, especially our female senators, take the time to get to know Pete today. I urge you to listen to him with an open heart and hear the truth about Pete. It’s important to note that he does not mistreat women."
She made an appearance following the publication of an email in The New York Times, which she wrote while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she didn’t actually believe what she said in the email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.
Following reports of alcohol abuse and mismanagement within nonprofit organizations, an article in The New Yorker brought attention to these allegations. In addition, allegations of rape were made by a woman against Mr. Hegseth at a political conference in 2017. Despite no charges being filed after an investigation, Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, stated that the encounter was consensual.
The negative outcomes of recent events have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment as the leader of the Defense Department under the next Trump administration at risk. President-elect Donald J. Trump is reportedly considering alternative candidates for the position.
