On Tuesday, a former state lawmaker from the Democratic party won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley. This resulted in a seat being flipped in the 2024 House race, which was the final one to be decided. The Associated Press reported on this election outcome.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte in the recent election, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215 seats.

Before The A.P. officially declared the winner, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a competition with over 210,000 votes, admitted defeat, according to Duane Dichiara, a representative for his campaign.

Before the deadline for counties in California to certify their results, Mr. Gray announced his victory on Tuesday, two days in advance.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the district is in need of leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations, emphasizing the importance of independence and accountability.

Mr. Gray, a previous member of the California State Assembly, achieved a win in the 13th Congressional District in 2022, overturning the results from two years ago when Mr. Duarte won by a very narrow margin in any House race.
