In the recent election, a former Democratic state legislator won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley. This victory marked the final House race of 2024 to be officially decided, as reported by The Associated Press.

Even though challenger Adam Gray defeated incumbent U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House of Representatives when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will have 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

Before the Associated Press made the official call, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a competition with over 210,000 votes cast, conceded, according to a spokesperson for the campaign named Duane Dichiara.

Before the deadline for counties in California to certify their results, Mr. Gray had already claimed victory on Tuesday.

In a statement on X, Mr. Gray expressed his belief that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political agendas and values accountability and independence.

Mr. Gray, who used to be a member of the California State Assembly, won the election in the 13th Congressional District, which was a change from the results in 2022. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte won by a very small margin in a House race.
