In California’s Central Valley, a Democratic candidate who used to be a state lawmaker won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday. This victory resulted in a change of power for the seat, which was the final House race from 2024 to be officially decided, as reported by The Associated Press

Even though Adam Gray defeated John Duarte in the election, the Republicans will still have a small majority in the House when the new Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

Before the Associated Press made the official call, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a race with over 210,000 ballots, conceded the election. This information was shared by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

Mr. Gray announced that he had won on Tuesday, two days before California counties needed to officially confirm their election results.

Mr. Gray stated in a release on X that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political agendas and is independent and accountable.

In the recent election, Mr. Gray, who used to be a member of the California State Assembly, won the 13th Congressional District, overturning the outcome from 2022. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte won by a very narrow margin in that House race.
