In the recent election, a former state lawmaker from the Democratic party won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley. This victory marked the final House race of 2024 to be officially decided, as reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray, the challenger, defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still hold a slight majority in the House of Representatives when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will have 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

Before the Associated Press made their call, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a race with over 210,000 total votes, decided to concede. This information was confirmed by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for his campaign.

On Tuesday, Mr. Gray announced that he had won before the deadline for California counties to finalize their results, which was two days away.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations and values accountability and independence.

Mr. Gray, a previous California State Assembly member, achieved a win in the 13th Congressional District, marking a change from the results in 2022. In the previous election, Mr. Duarte had won by a very narrow margin in comparison to other House races.
