In California’s Central Valley, a former Democratic state legislator won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday, marking the final 2024 House race to be decided. This information comes from The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte in the election, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress begins. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215 seats.

Before the Associated Press declared the results, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a competition with over 210,000 votes cast, admitted defeat. This information was shared by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

Before California counties had to certify their results, Mr. Gray announced his victory on Tuesday, two days prior.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations and values accountability and independence.

Mr. Gray, a previous member of the California State Assembly, achieved a win in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte had won by a very small margin in a House race.
