On Tuesday, a former state lawmaker from the Democratic Party won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley, flipping the seat in the last House race of 2024 to be decided. This information was reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still hold a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will have 220 seats, compared to the Democrats’ 215.

Before The Associated Press officially announced the results, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election with over 210,000 votes cast, admitted defeat. This was confirmed by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

On Tuesday, Mr. Gray announced that he had won before the deadline for California counties to officially confirm their election results.

In a statement on X, Mr. Gray expressed that the district is prepared for leadership that is independent and accountable, prioritizing the people of the Valley over partisan politics.

Mr. Gray, a previous California State Assembly member, won in the 13th Congressional District in a turnaround from the 2022 election results. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte narrowly won by a small margin in any House race.
