A Democrat from California, Adam Gray, was able to win a seat in the House of Representatives by defeating the incumbent Republican, John Duarte. This victory was a reversal of the outcome of their previous race in 2022.

On Tuesday, a former Democratic state legislator won against the Republican currently holding office in California’s Central Valley. This victory resulted in a seat being flipped in the 2024 House race, making it the final race to be determined. This information was reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray, the challenger, defeated the incumbent U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republican party will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election where over 210,000 votes were cast, admitted defeat just before The A.P. made the official announcement, according to Duane Dichiara, a representative for the campaign.

Mr. Gray announced that he had won on Tuesday, two days before California counties were supposed to officially confirm their election results.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the final results show that the district is in need of leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations and is willing to be held accountable.

Mr. Gray, a previous member of the California State Assembly, won the election in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results of the 2022 election where Mr. Duarte had won by a very small margin.
